Komi Can't Communicate's third volume is another good one. It's a great series of slice of life tales of Komi coping with her social anxiety disorder and her growing circle of friends. We also meet Komi's family and I came away with the impression her condition might be genetic. That and she has a grandmother who would make many people want to stay silent. The gang goes to the pool and a festival and Komi, Najimi and Tadano get part time work. If you thought Yamai, who we met in Volume 2, had major issues, she gets even stranger here. I can imagine therapists fighting duels over who will get to treat her. Some of the best scenes are between Komi and Tadano and one wonders when they might decide they could be more than friends. Komi Can't Communicate retains its place as one of the best manga series I've discovered this year. Volume 3 of Komi Can't Communicate continues the story of Komi and her work to overcome social anxiety and make more friends. This particular volume contains chapters 35 to 47. Unlike the first two volumes, volume 3 focuses less on introducing new characters in favor of putting Komi and her friends in some typical teenage situations such as studying for tests and going to a summer festival. This makes this volume more about the humor rather than much in character development. Some new characters are introduced such as an introduction of Komi's previously unseen father.As with the first two volumes, the artwork in this volume is excellent. I really appreciated the amount of work the artist put into everything including having some detailed backgrounds to the very expressive faces of the characters. While most of the humor is good, some of it does fall a little flat as the characters find themselves in some rather clichéd situations such as an ersatz beach episode where they go to a local swimming pool.Overall, I enjoyed this volume of Komi Can't Communicate. If you enjoyed the first two volumes, you will very likely enjoy this one as well.
