Ebook About Every life has a soundtrack. All you have to do is listen. Music has set the tone for most of Zoe Baxter’s life. There’s the melody that reminds her of the summer she spent rubbing baby oil on her stomach in pursuit of the perfect tan. A dance beat that makes her think of using a fake ID to slip into a nightclub. A dirge that marked the years she spent trying to get pregnant. For better or for worse, music is the language of memory. It is also the language of love. In the aftermath of a series of personal tragedies, Zoe throws herself into her career as a music therapist. When an unexpected friendship slowly blossoms into love, she makes plans for a new life, but to her shock and inevitable rage, some people—even those she loves and trusts most—don’t want that to happen. Sing You Home is about identity, love, marriage, and parenthood. It’s about people wanting to do the right thing for the greater good, even as they work to fulfill their own personal desires and dreams. And it’s about what happens when the outside world brutally calls into question the very thing closest to our hearts: family. Jodi absolutely nailed it. This is one the most inspiring, heartbreaking, soul-touching novels I’ve read. I found myself consumed by the story, bawling my eyes out within the first chapter. It not only speaks volumes for equality amongst sexual orientation, but of religious/spiritual freedom, addiction, and the many forms of love. Sing You Home is a beautiful, yet simply written novel that carries the depth of each of its characters into the reader’s heart. I experienced empathetic feelings of pure joy, anger, despair, longing, hope, etc. If you’re looking for a “pull you into the story” kinda read, you’ll find it in this one. Well, I stayed up WAY too late to read this in one sitting and now that the last page is turned, I am not really sure why I bothered to stay up... The plot was VERY predictable... literally every twist was something I already suspected. And the book - other than not having begun at the ending - followed Picoult's quite customary courtroom formula. The characters were really little more than cliche's themselves. The "funny" and "charming" comments were mostly over-used quips. I will say that infertility aspect seemed impeccably researched, but the more controversial elements of the story just didn't seem to be handled quite as well. The religious characters (who all seemed to have Southern drawls) came off as completely bigoted and brainwashed while the homosexual characters really felt stereotyped to me. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone identifying with either group (so I suppose it felt equal-opportunity insulting in this fictional portrayal). Towards the end, it felt like Picoult really drew out the court case, loading it up with huge chunks of research purely dumped into testimony rather than actually working to weave this information through the fabric of the story. There was a lot of preaching from both perspectives that just was too much for me.And yet, despite all of that, I did read it in one sitting. Picoult certainly has a way with words. And it may not be an original story, but it is entertaining. I stayed up late, even though I never felt that edge-of-my-seat excitement, or even feeling all that interested or connected to these characters, so I guess that does say something for it. My copy came with a CD, too, and the folksy music is a nice touch that emphasizes the lines of the book, but overall it's a bit maudlin.
