Ebook About As the go-to therapist at Elite Therapy, Dr. Hayley Sims is the best in her field. It’s exactly why she’s just been assigned her most challenging patient yet, hockey player Elizabeth Stone. Not because Stone’s injury is complicated, but because she is intense to work with and needs someone to keep her in check. When Hayley’s personal life starts unraveling and she realizes she might be developing feelings for her patient, she’s torn between finishing her assignment and walking away to protect herself. Can Hayley get Stone back on the ice in one piece while keeping her heart from breaking?Book Touch Review :
This story had a lot more push and pull to it’s content...than most of Kris Bryant’s books. It started with an appearance of infidelity. A wedding gets called-off. A jealous ex tries to sabotage a new budding relationship. And also manages to include a main love interest ghosting the other. Oh boy were there a plethora of thoughts, emotions, and ethical dilemmas to this read. This was hands-down a steamy and thought provoking read. The connection between the two MCs, Hayley and Stone, is passionate and intense...as is always appreciated. Usually I find myself complimenting how Bryant manages to “show and not tell” the growing bond between the two MCs. This time, it was the way Bryant showed how Hayley was slapped in the face by reality. She needed to call-off the wedding, before it was too late. Just a few chapters-in it’s apparent Hayley and Allison’s relationship was one of friendship, but not one of “forever.” After any wedding proposal, it’s normal to exist in the whirl of inertia that eventually brings two people to their wedding alter. The flowers, the decor, the rings, the dresses, etc...constant wedding planning and decision-making becomes second nature during that time of any couple’s relationship. But when one realizes they don’t feel heard, they don’t feel important, and they are reluctant to mail out their wedding invites...there is a problem. This doesn’t have to mean there is contention between the pair. Nor does this have to mean both speak to each other in an acrimonious manner. Sometimes friends can break-up, even if it’s not a mutual desire. For Hayley, it seems her attraction towards Stone is the factor that makes her ponder what she truly wants from and to give into a lifelong partnership...a marriage. I like that Stone isn’t the reason Hayley broke things off with her fiancĂ© (Alison). But rather, it’s the one thing she cannot control within herself...telling her that her current relationship isn’t going to last and she needs to call it off. In all honesty, I would have appreciated to be more privy to Hayley’s internal anguish and struggle over calling off the wedding. Especially being this story is told from Hayley’s POV. I couldn’t imagine breaking up with someone I’m planning on marrying, and not suffering any mental anguish over breaking their heart. Especially when there was no outright wrongdoing. Just a realization Hayley came-to that she couldn’t justify marrying Alison...which Bryant shows some aspects as to why. Stone was the reality that showed Hayley that life had something else in store for her, and it was possible to have that with someone who she had more in common with. The other aspect I keep mauling over is Stone ghosting Hayley, per the request of Alison. It’s hard to believe Stone would back-off without open communication. Then again, Stone was depicted as a character who didn’t feel comfortable with vulnerability and expressing her emotions. Bryant doesn’t outright tell this to us, but shows us through Stone’s demeanor during pivotal scenes. Grant it, Stone proved to be a passionate force when she heard Hayley was no longer taken. For this I am grateful because Stone made this story so hot my earpiece was burning my ears (audible version). So Stone proved she wasn’t so close-mouthed that she didn’t possess a mouth and mind that couldn’t eventually gather the muster to find her way back to Hayley. The question was...will Hayley take her back? Although I would have liked to be privy to how Hayley processed how she was going to break up with Alison. I still rated this book as a 5/5 because I can definitely see myself reading this gem, again. In addition, I am recuperating from an ankle injury which has me in a similar headspace as Stone. It made me hopeful I will be out there dancing and shaking like I was previous to my ligament tear. Being it’s year of Pandemic and I need any hope I can find...this helped me take the deep breath I needed during this 3rd CoVid surge. To all the fellow RNs who just want to lose themselves in a sexy read. This is your gem. This is my first Kris Bryant novel and I really liked it but I agree with the many other reviewers that there were a number of key flaws. Dr. Hayley Sims in engaged and about to get married to Allison when she meets Elizabeth Stone, a gorgeous hockey player trying to recover from an injury. I applaud Kris Bryant for being able to create so much passion between our main characters. Stone and Hayley and drawn together from the first scene and it is inevitable they will end up together. The problems in the novel arise when Hayley decides to call off the wedding without much explanation. This is where some character introspection would have been very helpful to the reader and likely would have made Hayley even more likeable. Her actions seemed out of the blue and rushed without much explanation. Similarly Stone's reaction to Allison's intervention was not believable. If you are in love with someone you don't take their ex's word for anything, you talk to your love. So there were some significant problems in this novel but I see a lot of talent in this writer. I would have gone with a dog over a cat too but that is a personal preference. Keep writing Kris Bryant, you are very talented.
