JAY BELL HAS DONE IT AGAIN !!! As with all of the other “Something Like “ books I was immediately drawn in and completely immersed in Noah’s story. I must say that I did have some rather negative stereo typical views and judgments about the occupation that Noah found himself in. However those views were completely changed long before the final chapter of the book. For me the authors great gift is that the characters in his books quickly become real people to the reader. They are no longer characters but people that you have come to know. When some of them show up in the new books it is such a delight to be reacquainted with them again. “Something Like Hail” Will make you think and will definitely touch your heart. You will probably even fall A little in love with Noah! I only wish I could give it more than five stars!! Jay's penultimate novel in his Something Like series also serves as the final chapter in the Storm series and like Spring (the concluding chapter in the original Seasons series) it introduces a new character, a new story, and a new perspective on old friends. Noah is a great character, very different from any other Jay has ever written and I enjoyed getting to know him. True to form, Bell set him up in something of a love triangle, in addition to giving him rather complex relationships with Marcello and another character from previous books that I will leave nameless to avoid spoilers. In spite of my love for the new characters, particularly Harold and Felix, it was Noah's relationship with Marcello and this other character that I found most fascinating. The Storm series in general has given Marcello a chance to shine, but none more so than this book. As to the other character, lets just say that for me the climactic moment involving him was one of the highlights of the whole book, and gave a much needed catharsis, but in a way that was true to the story and the characters. Jay is infamous for the intricate web he's created in this universe but I thought the way he tied Noah's story into the larger universe was one of his greatest coups in this series so far. Do yourself a fever and check this one out! I'm not sure it would serve as the best introduction to the something like universe, but like all of his books it could be read as a standalone and enjoyed. I can only hope that Jay finds a way to bring these characters back one last time before he wraps the series up.
