Overall 4.5 to 5 stars. (I don’t think there are big SPOILERS ahead but if they are for you, I apologize in advance) To be honest I didn’t like Hay that much during his time in the Made Marian series. The first time he was introduced, in Beau and Maverick’s story, I understood him, and would even dare say I liked him, but then he was in Josh’s story and he acted like a selfish, egocentric prick, and the little bit of “like” I had for him, and any sorry I felt for him, kind of banished. His only good points where that he knew when to step down, and was kind, gentle and understanding to others, but then his way of wanting to keep someone to himself, implying someone be monogamous to him, but wanting to keep going out and sleeping around with other people himself, made all good things about him invisible. So since I read the entire series, and new the character, I approached this short book, with a mindset of seeing some redemption for this character that started up with a somewhat good impression and ended with a not so good one on the series. You can tell with the amount of stars I gave it that it was an enjoyable, engaging story, and yes, I also somewhat like Hay a little more now. Christ is the perfect person for Hay; They have so much in common but also so many things different that they can complement and complete each other, like a soul mate. However, I do have to point out that Hayworth’s supposedly “insecurity” about being left by his past lovers for their childhood sweethearts, didn’t ring true nor accurate to me. First, Hay and Beau where just friends and had been broken up for a long time, because of Hay not wanting to come out, and Beau being tired of being Hay’s dirty little secret, when Beau reunited with Maverick and felt in love. Hay by no means had genuine feelings for Beau left when Beau and Mav finally got together, as he himself admitted (or at least gave the impression) to at the end of that story when he befriended Mav. Second, with Josh, he himself said they were just sleeping together, that they were not “exclusive” and were in a friends with benefits kind of relationship. He even told Josh he had a date with someone else for Valentine’s Day for gods sake! And don’t even mention Noah, since I don’t think Noah’s story even counts, they went to one disastrous date together that didn’t even last long enough to classify as a date, and that was it. So, when this “relationships” where mentioned in this book and implied that he developed some type of insecurity or some bull, I coun’t help but roll my eyes to the back of my skull, like come on, are you serious? The author could’ve found a better and a lot more credible conflict than that in this book. just saying. It’s not bad, other than this it was an enjoyable, cute short story. After struggling with coming out, these two men who admired each other for their sports contributions through the years, become very aware of significant steamy attraction to each other! The greatest part is their strength to show their confidence to the world as they rock each others world! Hot and sexy! Please know that all of the authors works are worthy and as a reader who reads all of their works, and then rereads them, my praise is sincere!
